The context
Community involvement is a crucial factor in creating and maintaining safe, welcoming and vibrant parks and green spaces. Following the recent publication of the government White Paper, Communities in Control, ensuring that parks services work to involve and include their local communities is more important than ever. We know the benefits community involvement can provide for the public, volunteers and parks staff, but how can we ensure that reationships between community groups and local authorities remain positive and beneficial to all? What are the most pressing needs for burgeoning volunteer groups, and how can these needs be met?Parks for People, which is organised in partnership with IPGS and Nottingham City Council and supported by Glendale, will consider these questions and more. This one-day conference will feature a packed programme of presentations and site tours and will provide delegates with practical suggestions and examples that can be implemented in their own parks and green spaces.

What you will learn
How to build lasting and positive relationships with community groups
How the government White Paper will affect both volunteers and local authorities
What funding is available for community-led projects, and how to obtain it
How communities and parks staff can learn from and support each other to provide the best possible service

Who should attend?
Parks for People will be of interest to park managers, community engagement professionals, community groups, heads of environmental services, policy makers, councillors, designers and planners, regeneration professionals, landscape architects and all other public, private and voluntary sector professionals who are currently working with, or have an interest in, parks and green spaces.
